THS Volleyball Recap
The Troy Lady Trojan volleyball team battled through four matches at the Riverside Tournament on Saturday, October 3, facing Riverside, Sabetha, Jefferson County North and Atchison County.
Troy opened the tournament against the host Riverside Cyclones in a closely contested three-set match. Neither team was able to win consecutive sets as the two teams battled from start to finish.
Riverside claimed the opening set 25-23, but Troy answered in the second set with a 25-23 victory to even the match. The deciding third set remained competitive, but the Cyclones pulled away to take the set 25-19 and win the match 2-1.
The Trojans then faced the Sabetha Bluejays in their second match of the tournament. Troy struggled to find its rhythm in the opening set, falling 25-10. The Trojans responded with a much stronger effort in the second set, but Sabetha ultimately held on for a 25-21 victory to earn the 2-0 win.
Troy's tournament run continued against Jefferson County North. The Trojans battled throughout the match and scored at least 18 points in each set. However, the Chargers came away with the 2-0 victory, winning 25-19 and 25-18.
In the final match of the tournament, Troy faced the Atchison County Tigers. The Trojans were able to break through and finish the tournament with a victory, defeating Atchison County 2-0.
The tournament provided the Lady Trojans with four opportunities to compete against quality opponents and make adjustments heading into the final stretch of the season. Troy battled through several competitive sets, including the three-set match against Riverside and the two close sets against Jefferson County North.
Despite dropping three of the four matches, the Trojans continued to compete and finished the tournament on a positive note with the victory over Atchison County.
With postseason play approaching, Troy will look to build on the experience gained at Riverside and use the tournament's challenges to improve consistency and finish the season strong.
