KSHSAA Sub-State Information:

CLASS 1A DI & 1A DII SUB-STATE TOURNAMENT & REGION FORMAT The number of participating schools will be divided evenly by four. Teams will be placed in four geographical regions and seeded in sub-state tournament brackets by seed, 1-4-5-8-9-12-13-16 and 2-3-6-7-10-11-14-15. The winner of each substate tournament advances to the state tournament. If a region has less than 16 teams, the top seeds in the region will have a bye in the quarterfinals.

February 23, 24, 28, March 2, 6, 7, 2026 Game time for quarterfinal games is 6 p.m. The only way an earlier game time will be considered is for weather or emergency. Quarterfinals - Monday, February 23 (1A Boys) AND Tuesday, February 24 (1A Girls) Single contests (6 p.m.) will be played at the site of the highest seeded team. The pairings will be made as follows: Team 16 at Team 1; Team 12 at Team 5 Team 15 at Team 2; Team 11 at Team 6 Team 14 at Team 3; Team 10 at Team 7 Team 13 at Team 4; Team 9 at Team 8 Note for February 23 and February 24: In the event that School A plays School B with boys on Monday and girls on Tuesday and if both schools agree, they may play both games on the same night at the same site as a doubleheader. The first game’s tip off time is 6 p.m. The date will be February 23. The site will be determined by adding the girls seed number and the boys seed number. The school with the lowest combined seed total would be the host. If seeds are tied, use combined wins. If no agreement can be reached, the contests will be played as scheduled above. • Example: School A’s girls seed is 2 and the boys seed is 9, making a total of 11. School B’s girls seed is 15 and boys seed is 8, making a total of 23. School A would host the doubleheader. • In the event their combined seed totals are identical, the school with the most wins (combined boys and girls) will host. • Example: School A’s combined seed is 14, school B’s combined seed is 14. To break the tie, add girls’ and boys’ wins. School A boys had 10 wins and the girls 12, for a total of 22. School B boys had 9 wins and the girls 12, for a total of 21 wins. School A would host the doubleheader. If a tie still remains, the region seeding manager will flip a coin to determine the host. • If the court of the higher seeded team does not meet minimum requirements, i.e. a minimum of eighteen (18) inches from the three point arc to the sideline, the contest may be played at either the lower seeded team’s site or a site mutually agreed on by school principals from the two involved schools. This change in location must be approved by the KSHSAA. • Quarterfinal games may be played in gyms with restraining lines as long as other minimum requirements are met. Gyms with restraining lines may not be used in semifinal or final games. • If weather makes it impossible to play February 23 or 24, every effort needs to be made to play on February 25.
