There is not a prettier sight than seeing the trees turn to fall colors in Doniphan County. Yes, fall already. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be scheduled this week and you should be hearing from your children’s teachers on your scheduled times by next week. I am going to throw out a challenge to middle school and high school students. Whatever grade in the middle school and high school has the highest percentage turnout for conferences, that class will earn an ice cream sandwich at lunch. So ice cream sandwiches for the kids whose parents attend the conference in their grade level. I am also going to set a reserve on this of 75% at least for the winning class. Let’s shoot for 100% for each grade level. I would like everyone to have ice cream!
I am certain many of you heard about the recent expansion of Summit Truck in Wathena and Elanco in Elwood. With a projection of 150 new jobs between these two businesses, how can our community and our school promote ourselves to families wanting to move into our community and attend our school? The board of education will continue to discuss this topic and look forward to any input you might have to help promote our small town living and our schools.
We had a pretty strong storm blow through part of Troy last night. Hopefully everyone is safe and able to work through the damage and inconvenience these things cause. If you ever need any help from your school district for things not necessarily school related, please reach out and we will see if we can help. Take care and I look forward to seeing all you at parent teacher’s conferences on November 7.
