From the Desk of Patrick McKernan

Dear USD 429 Parents, Guardians, and Patrons:

We are in one of the busiest times of the year for school teachers and staff, students, and parents.  It is also a time for a tremendous amount of excitement as we approach the end of the school year.  Saying that, we still have twenty plus days of teaching and learning before we finish another successful school year at Troy USD 429.  We look forward to finishing strong and having a successful end to the school year.

Mrs. Engemann, Mrs. McKernan, Mr. Estes and Mr. Prudden, and I met with our outside accreditation team on April 20, 2023.  We are in the first year of a five year process.  We were fully accredited, with recognition, last June by the Kansas State Board of Education.  The accreditation process begins over again after year five.  This is our second full cycle in the new accreditation process.   I get excited about the school improvement process as it gives everyone in the district a plan to follow and goals to meet.  We have tied our new goals in with our five year strategic plan and look forward to begin working on these immediately.  We will be posting these goals and how they tie in with the strategic plan, on the website in the near future.

We will be repairing two roofs this summer, both on the middle school and high school campus.  These are both extensive jobs. We received four bids on each roof, which was great.  The middle school roof and drains will be getting repaired and the roof re-sealed and the weight room/cafeteria roof with be getting a new overlay.  We will also be replacing some single unit HVAC units at the elementary school.  We do not have any other major projects going on, but have a  few small projects to keep the grounds and facilities looking nice.

Our last day of school is  May 24th for the students and May 26th for teachers.  We look forward to the next twenty plus days.   We have a lot left to do and much left to accomplish before we dismiss for the summer.  This time will go fast.  I look forward to seeing you at the many events and activities we have left to close out the school year.
