From the Desk of Patrick McKernan, Superintendent
Dear USD 429 Parents and Patrons:
It is mid-October and what a pleasant fall we are having. Some people are saying this will make the winter unbearable, but time will tell. We are off and running, as many of you know by your busy schedules. We are almost through high school fall sports season and middle school fall sports will finish up this week. Scholars’ Bowl practices have started and our middle school girls play a basketball game this week. We have had some nasty illness go through our schools, but it looks like we might be on the other side of that. As always, take care of yourself as it is easy for all of us to get worn down.
I would like to recognize our two building principals, Mrs. Engemann and Mr. Prudden. We are fortunate to have both of them working with our teachers, students, and parents. It is National Principals Month, so if you see them, please tell them thanks for all they do.
I would also like to recognize our bus, van, and activity drivers; Jamie Garrison, Richard Grable, Kevin Winkle, Roger Purdy, Bobby Watkins, Bill Koehler, and Kelly Crossland. Thanks for all they do to help get our students safely from one location to another.
Congratulations to our Middle School Girls Volleyball team and coaches Cluck and Geiger for their stellar season. Going undefeated in regular league play and winning the NEKL league tournament is a great accomplishment!
Please note a few important dates coming up. Our first semester Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held from 1:00-8:00 pm on November 6th. Our annual community Veterans Day Assembly will take place at the C.W. Oliver Gymnasium on November 11 beginning at 9:00 am. And then Thanksgiving will be here! I hope you and your children are having a great school year. I know our entire staff cares about that and we will continue to work to help that happen.
Sincerely,
Patrick E. McKernan
