THS Psychology Class Field Trip to Glore Museum

On Wednesday, December 6, the Troy High School Psychology class visited the Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri.

At the beginning of the tour, the students were treated to a documentary detailing treatment throughout history of those who have psychological disorders. An icepick lobotomy and trepanation procedure were shown. Then, a volunteer was allowed to try on a straitjacket.

The museum tour included a display dedicated to a patient who suffered from severe pica, a room of devices which were used in the Middle Ages to “cure” those with psychological disorders, and the former asylum’s morgue. The point of the visit was to bring awareness to the struggles of those with psychological disorders and to understand the diverse ways nature and nurture can affect the mind.

Students who attended were: Emma Smith, Aiden Rathert, Lane Hall, Sawyer Ashburn, Holden Bowe, Hailey Sigrist, Hannah Drake, Wyatt Prather, Ryder McCulloch, Harper Whetstine, Savanna Barnard, Emily Huff, Alyson Grable, Adriana Clary, Nicole Judd, Zoie Uplinger, Henry Geiger, Kennadee Christopher, and Addison Grable.
