The USD 429 Master Teacher of the Year Selection Committee met on April 20, 2021 to select the Master Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.  Five teachers were nominated for the honor.

Bethany Jenkins- Ms. Jenkins was nominated as a team player.  She is open minded and flexible and has been willing to be flexible in her teaching assignment the past six years.  Ms. Jenkins also serves as Coach Jenkins during the high school volleyball season.  Ms. Jenkins is always willing to step in and lend a hand.

Angela Johnson – Mrs. Johnson was nominated for her work with the middle school students and being a stable influence in the middle school. She is always organized, has great classroom management, but has great respect from the kids.

Jeremy Prudden – Mr. Prudden continues to teach at a high level and is taking on more and more leadership roles in the district, which is appreciated.  Jeremy is willing to help when and where needed.

Jonathan Rodvelt – Mr. Rodvelt is in his 7th year of teaching at Troy High School/Middle School.  Mr. Rodvelt has taught Social Studies at Troy for the Middle school and High school (Kansas history, geography, etc.) and really goes above and beyond with his teaching by making it fun, interactive, and he knows how to connect with the students to help them learn.  He has shown the kids that history is not only very important it is something that will help to build a better future.

Jena Tharman – Mrs. Jena Tharman was chosen as the 2020-2021 USD 429 Master Teacher of the Year!

Jena is a past nominee.  She continues to create a kindergarten program for our district in which we can take great pride. She creates a warm, encouraging, and fun learning environment for her students.  She establishes good communication with parents and does a great job at keeping parents informed.  Around school, she is always willing to lend a helping hand. She assists with lots of 'behind the scenes' things.  Jena strives to carry on traditional activities, but also introduces new and fun ideas, like the Friday Fun Dancing!!

Jena is also extremely active with school and community events.  You regularly see her outside the classroom with a smile on her face talking to kiddos and parents.  She supports her students outside the classroom as well.  We have seen her attending her students sporting events to cheer them on.

When it comes to professional development, Jena is always striving to learn and grow as a teacher.  You can tell she thoroughly enjoys teaching, and it is more than a ‘job’ to her.  She is continually searching for new ways to make her classroom a more engaging learning environment for her students.  Every day she shows she is dedicated to students, parents, and Troy USD 429 through her positive, creative, fun, caring, and innovative personality.
