From the Desk of Patrick McKernan

Dear USD 429 Parents and Guardians:

As we approach the end of the first quarter, I again want to tell you thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to strive to have in person learning for your children.  As we continue to update our website and keep you posted on Covid related incidents and situations, it is important to remind you we do not have the authority to tell you about all situations.   However I wanted to give you an update on the number of students and staff we have had quarantined and the number of positive Covid cases in our district.

We have had twelve positive Covid cases.  This includes students and staff, or staff that are assigned to our district from another organization.    We have had 73 students or adults quarantined due to close contact with positive cases.  We still believe these are outside cases coming into our district.  These numbers change daily.

It is becoming so much common practice, we will not post every situation but will communicate when and if needed.  As I have mentioned many times, we are working hard to maintain an in person learning environment for our staff and students.  We will continue to offer as much “normal” as we can for your children.

We will be having online parent teacher conferences and hope you take time to visit with your children’s teachers.  These conferences are still very important to us.  We definitely appreciate your willingness to be flexible and adjust to our new format.  These can still be very productive conferences.

We will plan for four more great weeks to get us to Thanksgiving break.  It is our hope you are all safe and doing well in your own households.  We will continue to face the challenges that come forth and will always work with you to help your children.

Patrick E. McKernan
