From the Desk of Patrick McKernan

I hope you are all enjoying your summer, and even though the weather has been hot, it has been great to be able to be outside.  I know many if not all of you are wondering what school will look like when we start on August 27th.  I am wondering also!  We get different information weekly and daily on plans being made for the coming school year.  The county superintendents have met to discuss the state of current situation and there are weekly webinars with all the school’s district superintendents and yet no one has a firm grasp on what school will look like.  The Kansas State Department of Education has released their guidance document, 1000 pages, and me and others are going through the document to see how it will affect us, you, and most importantly your children.  Much of what we do will depend on what state, county, and local official say we can do, or not do.  We want to do school as normal as possible.

In talking with many of you at the ballpark, grocery store, or on the square, I have not heard anyone tell me they want to do school like we did last spring.  The teaching staff feels the same way.  We want to have your children in  our classroom, with their classmates, as normal as possible.  If this is not what you are thinking for your child, you need to let us know.  I am certain there are many opinions on how we should do school, and what it should like it.  Feel free to share those as well.

I can’t say thank you enough of to our parents, grandparents, guardians and others who helped out so much and were so patient with us last March, April, and May.  We will be asking for your flexibility and patience again as we continue to navigate through these next couple weeks.  I continue to hold out hope for normalcy.  We all need it, and most importantly our kids, your kids, need it.  I will be sharing more information with you in the coming days and weeks.   Take care and continue to  follow the website and Facebook account for additional information.

Sincerely,
