From the Desk of Patrick McKernan

Dear USD 429 Parents/Guardians and Families:

We have never expected more out of you then we are expecting now.  Our staff will practice patience, flexibility, grace as we work through the upcoming challenging week.  We want and need to help you through this.  As stated previously we will not have any students onsite from March 30-April 3.  I do not see those restrictions being lifted at this time, but I am not going to paint us or myself in a  corner with definitive yes or no guidelines.  I would love to finish school in a building with your kids in a classroom with our teachers, shaking seniors hands as they walk across the stage. I continue to have hope this will happen.

Teacher/Parent Communication – We should be knocking this out the park right now.  If you have not heard from the school or your child’s teachers, please email me personally as I want to make sure I answer any questions you have.  If you have concerns, don’t blow up Facebook as we might not see it!  Email Mr. Estes mestes@troyusd.org or me pmckernan@troyusd.org. You can also Zoom or call us, we are here at the school.  We will make sure you get the communication addresses and information you need to contact us.

Building access – Our buildings are not shut down, which is why many teachers have worked from the buildings this week, following the ten and under rule and social distancing.  Some staff may teach from their classrooms.  We are shut down to outside visitors and students until further notice.

Scammers – If you get anything asking for any information, that has not come from us, your child’s teachers, or a trusted USD 429 account, don’t click.  We will communicate with you if a vendor, textbook resources, teacher, the school etc. is asking for administration.

Internet Issues – We have been tirelessly working on this with internet providers.  We are not close yet in finding solutions for those that do not have internet or access to internet.  If you live in town and have internet, could you share with the neighbor?  These are private and personal decisions that only you can make.

Hotspots – Have been established at the Troy ballfield and the Troy library.  If you bring your laptop to any of our buildings you can gain access to our district wifi automatically.

I will update the social media sites when I have additional information to share with you.  I would like to say takeoff, the flight, and the landing are all going to be smooth.  We know it might be bumpy for all of us.  Hang in there with us.  And tell your kids hello for us, we certainly do miss them.
