New Important Information on the 2019-2020 School Year

USD 429 Parents and Students

Students, first of all we would like to tell you how much we miss seeing you on a daily basis.  Please, please, please keep trying to learn new things while you are not at school.

Parents, we realize the difficult position you are in.  We are working to be able to provide your children with learning opportunities that will benefit them, without putting undo stress on you.

The Kansas State Department of Education issued the Continuous Learning Plan as guidelines and recommendations moving forward.  I am pleased and proud to announce many of our staff were ahead of the curve on this, and have been developing plans themselves for your children.  We will be focusing on broad outcomes; the most important information we need to have students finish up their current grade or subject area.

DRAFT - Our tentative timeline is as follows:

This week – We have cleaned the buildings from top to bottom and will be ready for staff to be back in the building.

You have been receiving calls and emails and other communication from your teachers asking various questions.  They will continue to do this as we are certain to need additional information.

March 23             All teachers will report back to their buildings.  This will be happening in most schools across the state.  We will be meeting via zoom and in small groups, practicing social distancing. Teachers will also be trained on ZOOM, Google Classroom, and other platforms we will be using.  Teachers will begin formulating their grade level and subject level plans to share later in the week.

March 24             Additional staff meetings in small groups or via ZOOM to continue planning for students and receive training if needed.  Establish those critical outcomes for our students.  Establish a communication plan for our students and parents and establish a chain of communication.  Establish daily time and learning expectations for students.

March 25                 Begin communicating with parents and see what needs and resources might be needed.  Begin getting computers home to K-6 students if devices are needed in the home.  Begin delivering students books and supplies to homes if needed.  Continue with plans to develop learning outcomes for your students. Continue to practice social distancing.

March 26 -27                          Speak with all parents to make sure a communication plan is established and answer any questions you or students might have.  Finalize all plans.  Deliver learning plans to parents and students via online delivery or over the phone.

March 30                             First Day of School!!!!!!!

K-6 -Computers - As mentioned we will develop a process for you to pick these up or get them to you.

K-6 – Supplies - As mentioned we will develop a process for you to pick these up or get them to you.

K-12 personal items - As mentioned we will develop a process for you to pick these up or get them to you.

I am still hopeful we can have students, eventually come to our school.  We are still waiting guidance on that as KSDE has told us this is acceptable, provided we follow all recommended social distancing guidelines in classrooms and buildings.  We know that won’t happen next week.

This timeline may be adjusted.  It is very possible we can start delivering content late next week.  We will work hard and efficient for your children.  We are unwavering in our dedication to them.  We know the more we can do now for you and your children, the better off we will all be in the future.
