Dear USD 429 Parents:

As you are aware, the Governor of Kansas has shut down school facilities for the remainder of the school year.  School as we know it and as our students know it, will not be the same this year.

We understand the hardships this puts on our families and our communities and especially how it impacts you, our students, and your children.

We have been discussing this week and working on plans to deliver alternative education to our students.  Guidelines will be issued this week to help schools define and plan alternative learning environments and opportunities.  This will look different and we will all need to be flexible as we develop and implement these plans.  We will follow those guidelines to the best of our ability, and with our creative and innovative spirit and knowledge, WE WILL develop and implement a plan for your children.

We do not anticipate offering any structured learning activities until March 30th.  USD 429 teaching staff will be meeting next week in small groups and/or via Zoom or Skype to develop learning plans for your kids.  We are working on a coordinated effort to have plans in place for all grade levels and all students by March 30.  In the meantime, teachers may be contacting students and parents about activities students can be doing to keep their learning moving forward.

We will offer free lunch to all children from ages 1-18 during the duration of this school closure.  The guidelines are included on our website.

You will have many questions and we hope to answer every one of those questions.  Please reach out to me via email pmckernan@troyusd.org or call the school office if I can answer those for you.  Also, continue to pay attention to Twitter, Facebook, www.troyusd.org, our website, for continued updates.

Make no mistake about, we love your kids and we love this school district.  We can do this!  We will do this for your children and our students.
