From the Desk of Mr. Pat McKernan

As summer break for the students is winding down, I wanted to remind all the parents, guardians, and students of the upcoming school enrollment set for August 18th.   I look forward to meeting many of you and your children on this day.  Mr. Hevel, Troy MS/HS Principal and Ms. Torline, K-12 Counselor, will be available this day as well.  Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Ferris, Ms. Huss, and Mrs. Rush have been busy preparing for the 18th and the start of the new school year.  Your children are in great hands with these four individuals.  Along with the administrative staff, there are a few other new faces that will be working in the school district this year, as we shared with you in the district newsletter.

Secondary English:  Michaela Kinyon is a Benedictine College graduate last spring.  Ms. Kinyon is from Pittsburg, KS and did her student teaching at Leavenworth High School.  Ms. Kinyon will also be the Co-Junior Class Sponsor and the Newspaper/Yearbook Sponsor.

Secondary Science:  Kerry Stoneking originates from Colony in southeast Kansas.  She graduated from Pittsburg State University with a biology and physical science degree.  After graduation, Ms. Stoneking became interested in teaching and enrolled in the Pittsburg State University Masters of Teaching program and graduated in May with a Masters’ degree.  She did a long term substitute teaching job at Nemaha Central High School, Seneca, KS and did her student teaching at Hiawatha.  Ms. Stoneking will also be the Asst. Girls Basketball Coach and Co-Junior Class Sponsor.

K-12 Counselor:  Lauren Torline will be serving as the K-12 counselor and the district assessment coordinator for the Troy Schools this year.  Ms. Torline graduated from Bucklin High School and earned her B.S. from Friends University in Wichita.  She completed her masters work at Fort Hays State University.  Last spring Ms. Torline completed her school counseling internship with the Wamego school district.  Ms. Torline will also be serving as an Asst. Coach for the Middle School Volleyball team and Asst. Softball Coach.

Administrative Assistant Troy Central Office:  Harley is a 2014 graduate of Troy High School and graduated from HCC this past May with a medical assistant degree.  Harley currently lives in Troy.  Harley will be the administrative assistant in the Troy Central Office and also the food service ticket personnel for breakfast and lunch at Troy Elementary School.

Library Aide/Keyboarding:  Michelle Clark is not new to the schools but will be new to her current position.  Mrs. Clark will be the TGS library aide and Keyboarding instructor.  Michelle most recently worked for the Doniphan County Educational Cooperative serving as a para professional.

7-12 Principal/AD: Mr. Josh Hevel grew up in Waverly, Kansas, a town of about 600 people.  He graduated from Kansas State University and received his masters from Fort Hays State University.  For the past seven years he taught high school social studies at Central Heights High School in Richmond, Kansas. He also helped with the coaching of football, basketball, and baseball.

Please take time to introduce yourself to all of us.  I continue to see more and more teachers in the buildings and in their classrooms preparing for a great school year.  As parents you have the biggest influence on helping your child have a productive and positive experience this year.  Sending them to school with a great attitude is important.  We will see you on the 18th if not before.
